TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello and welcome to the COSMOGRAPHIA TEST DRIVE MEME! This is a place where you can get a feel for your character(s) in the game's setting! A couple quick points before we get down to business:

☆ Please take a look at our Premise, World Information, and our FAQ to get a feel for the rules and setting. This is great if you want to see what the game is about before jumping in!

☆ Test Drive threads are certainly allowed to be used for samples for your application, should you choose to submit one!

SAMPLE SCENARIOS:

A: By whatever means, you've tumbled through a hole into a cavernous temple. Gems suspended in bubbles float about the ceiling, and a large Heartlike gem looms before you. Touching it, whether out of curiosity or frustration, will give you some basic information, but then again, there's no guarantee you're just going to walk up to a giant weird thing in the middle of a giant weird room and touch it, right? Why not take a look around and see for yourself what kind of place this is? Perhaps you'll run into someone in the same predicament as you, or perhaps you'll run into someone who can help explain why there's a weird rock now affixed to your body?

B: It's Thursday in Waverly Bay, and that can mean only one thing: the weekly Farmer's Market is here again! Stalls not only from farmers on the outskirts of town but from crafty residents with interesting homemade items to sell, and businesses looking to attract the Market's crowd are all here! Are you shopping for a good deal on vegetables for dinner? Or perhaps you're getting a feel for the residents, having recently arrived? Or, perhaps, are you an industrious gem who's looking to set up shop? Either way, you're bound to run into somebody in this bustling, busy place.

C: Uh-oh! Looks like you've run into a monster! Apparently, from what little you've heard, you can shapeshift into things and pull a weapon from your gem, and you have some sort of special power, but maybe you don't know what it is yet, or you're still not used to using it? Guess you're going to have to learn on the job. Don't leave your fellow gems hanging if you see them fighting one of these little guys either! You're going to need each other to take 'em down!

Hey, I don't know. Last thing I remember is us dying because someone didn't follow our plan.

[It's a lie, a big fat lie, as the actually close the gap between them and Asriel and... boop his snoot.]

And shouldn't I be the one asking you that?

[He flinches a little at the snoot boop - he always has, when it catches him off-guard like this - and he shakes his head. Nope, nope, there is something super weird and fishy going on, and he can't let it go for one second or he'll never ever get it out of Chara.]

W-Why do you look like Frisk?

[He blurts it out, finally finding the strength to say it. It's not exactly what he thinks he wants to ask, but it's close.]

Who's Frisk?

[Play dumb here, Chara. Can't let anyone know the truth, since this is unknown territory. It's not the Underground and who knows if they can save or reset and start all over again.]

I look like me... Although I dunno why I'm wearing this ugly sweater, heh!

[Ah, the question catches Asriel off-guard. Of course Chara wouldn't know who Frisk was. But he shakes his head and tries to stand straight and firm, because he knows by now that something is wrong, he just has no idea what and why.]

That's Frisk's sweater - it's like you're a copy of them! But - but you're not supposed to be, if you're Chara then you're supposed to be Chara!

[He's mixed you both up once before, out of desperation and loneliness, but he knows by now not to do that again.]

[Too bad Chara isn't going to let Asriel even stay focused on the "wrong" of all this as the place their hands on his shoulders.]

I have no idea what you're talking about, Asriel. In fact I'm wondering if you're okay, because you're babbling about some crazy stuff.

[Concern in their voice and showing on their face.]

[You can try, but he's had enough time and experience to learn to dig his heels in. He's not good at it, by far, but he certainly tries.]

No, I - I know something's strange. Chara, please, tell me what happened...you, you've been dead, and...

And so have you. But we're not dead here, right?

[Oh Asriel, Chara's been playing you since they day they met you. They're not going to stop now.

And they grin some more as they say the next thing...]

Unless this is a really messed up hell, or something.

[Which is really the thing - as much as he's going to try to be strong, Chara knows him far too well. They'll always be able to hit the right note to send him off track, even if he tries to right himself.]

Wh...no, it's not! Chara, this isn't hell at all, it's...

[He looks over at the Heart Gem. Awful as it can be, the fact that it brought Chara to him is slowly sinking in.]

Did you, um. Did you touch that thing yet?

Hm? You mean the weird thing?

[They do turn to look at the Heart Gem, making a face.]

No, didn't mom teach you to not touch weird things? Or was that just me?

[That's a joke, Asriel. Isn't it funny?]

[No, not really, because it's weird. Weirder than weird things weird. He gently takes Chara's hand, tugging them over to the Heart.]

It's safe to touch it, I promise. It...tells you stuff in your head, kind of.

Why would I want that?!

[They sound horrified by the mere idea. Seriously Asriel, that's not right.]

Why can't you tell me things... Or are you hiding something from me, Asriel?

[He furrows his brow and shakes his head.]

No, no! But it's kind of hard to explain. If you really want, I can try...

I'd rather hear it from my brother than some... Freak rock thing.

[It's over the top and probably not believable, but Chara is going to keep up this act. Of being scared and a bit confused by Asriel wanting them to touch a weird rock thing.]

[Yeah it's a little weird, but then again, this whole situation of Chara looking exactly like Frisk is very, very weird, and...well, it's secretly kind of nice to hear that sort of thing from Chara, like, he can tell them something new.

So, he savors it for a moment. Just a moment.]

Okay. But, then, you've got to promise me something, if that's okay.

[Savor it, Asriel. Savor it and don't let it go.]

... Depends on the promise. I'm not gonna promise something that's like, gross or something.

It's not gross...I just wanna know how you, um. Hm.

[How does he say this if Chara was so keen to deflect?]

I wanna know...how come you look like this now, and don't look like you.

[He'll tell you what's going on even if you don't comply, which you probably know, but he's got to try asking anyway.]

I... Still look like me. I just woke up here and you're asking me all this weird stuff, Asriel.

[That's their answer and they're sticking with it.

Like come on, Asriel, they may look like Frisk but their eyes are still the same red color they were when Chara was themselves.]

[That, besides how they speak, is really all that's the same.

But fine. He relents, sighing and scratching behind one of his ears. You won't tell him, he gets it.]

Okay. Well, um. Alright.

[He sits down, and pats the floor for Chara to follow suit.]

It's kind of complicated. You should sit down.

[Don't mind them huffing a bit, because really. Does he have to keep asking them about this? There is no point to it, but hey they're going to sit down now.]

I can get complicated, so tell me everything you can. Okay?

[You can go ahead and huff all you like, Chara, but you can't make him forget these odd things so easily. You can distract him, but not forget.]

Well...you came through a hole to get here, right? Everybody who comes here does. And, once we get here, we get a gem on us somewhere. It gives us special powers, and we're supposed to protect the people outside the temple. There's an outside, Chara! With a big ocean and sky and people, and they're all really nice! And, everyone in here is nice, too!

[He's starting to get excited about it now, because just thinking about this place reminds him of all the good things here.]

Oh, but we have to protect our gems. If they get damaged, we'll...um, well, it's kind of weird to think about it, but we'll turn into bad monsters? That's what everyone says happens. I don't want to find out if it's true, so, I try to be careful, and you should be too, okay? I-I don't want anything bad to happen to you.

[They listen, being good and not interrupting except... Oh that's a big old frown at the mention of people. Added to the "bad" monsters information it's not hard for Chara to put two and two together so when Asriel is done talking? Or at least when Chara can find a spot to speak they do so.]

So... humans.

[The gem stuff can wait. Humans are a subject that needs to be clarified ASAP.]

[Ah yeah that deflates Asriel's good mood right quick, but...he hadn't wanted to start with "so the species you hate the most is the majority here WELCOME TO GEM TOWN"]

Mm...yeah. They're not so bad, but you get your own room here. Nobody says you've gotta spend time with them, if you don't want. The Heart brings in humans, too, but also people who weren't ever humans, too.

[Just make sure Chara never learns how to summon their weapon, Asriel.]

Mm, I guess that's good to hear. And you're here so that makes it a million times better!

[And they're all smiles once more.]

[Ugh you're trying to butter him up aren't you

Ugh it's working]

Um...well...it's actually really, really nice to see you here, too, Chara! I didn't think I'd ever get to see you again...

[Of course they are, and of course it is.

Gosh Asriel is such an easy target.]

What with the whole dying thing, yeah.... I guess I'm sorry about that.
