Hello and welcome to the COSMOGRAPHIA TEST DRIVE MEME! This is a place where you can get a feel for your character(s) in the game's setting! A couple quick points before we get down to business:

SAMPLE SCENARIOS:

A: By whatever means, you've tumbled through a hole into a cavernous temple. Gems suspended in bubbles float about the ceiling, and a large Heartlike gem looms before you. Touching it, whether out of curiosity or frustration, will give you some basic information, but then again, there's no guarantee you're just going to walk up to a giant weird thing in the middle of a giant weird room and touch it, right? Why not take a look around and see for yourself what kind of place this is? Perhaps you'll run into someone in the same predicament as you, or perhaps you'll run into someone who can help explain why there's a weird rock now affixed to your body?

B: It's Thursday in Waverly Bay, and that can mean only one thing: the weekly Farmer's Market is here again! Stalls not only from farmers on the outskirts of town but from crafty residents with interesting homemade items to sell, and businesses looking to attract the Market's crowd are all here! Are you shopping for a good deal on vegetables for dinner? Or perhaps you're getting a feel for the residents, having recently arrived? Or, perhaps, are you an industrious gem who's looking to set up shop? Either way, you're bound to run into somebody in this bustling, busy place.

C: Uh-oh! Looks like you've run into a monster! Apparently, from what little you've heard, you can shapeshift into things and pull a weapon from your gem, and you have some sort of special power, but maybe you don't know what it is yet, or you're still not used to using it? Guess you're going to have to learn on the job. Don't leave your fellow gems hanging if you see them fighting one of these little guys either! You're going to need each other to take 'em down!

No, no, not there. It was...

[Her smile falters. Wait, have they met before? They must have, she has a very clear impression that she knows Jane and they are friends. But where did that come from?

She thinks intently, unconsciously rubbing the gem on her forehead, consciously trying to dig up everything she knows about her. Turning her brain inside-out and dumping the contents on the ground, more or less.]

It was... Shoot, it's on the tip of my lick frond. There was a mural, or... no, weren't we in space? At some point?

[She scratches her head, visibly confused.] I mean, I feel like it was a long time ago, but not that long.

[Now you have Jane wondering if that's the case. But, she'd remember, wouldn't she? She remembers all the trolls she's met.]

I...I couldn't say. My mind's drawing a blank. But...well, does it matter, really? I know we've both got that darned game in common, you have to! You're a troll.

[Well, she is right that it doesn't really matter. Aradia shrugs it off.]

You're right about that! About both those things, actually. Yes, I am a troll, and yes, we do have that darned game in common. [Hee hee!]

My name's Aradia. Nice to meet you! Either again, or for the first time, or some combination of the two.

[Jane holds a hand out for Aradia to shake.]

Whichever it is, it's nice to meet you too! And I hope you'll be glad to know that we're definitely outside the realm of that darned game here.

[Handshake get!]

Sure looks that way, huh? Where are we, though?

Well, presently, we're in a temple. You came through a hole to get here, I assume - we all did - and now we've got these funny gems stuck to us, as you've noticed yourself.

You too, huh?

[She looks a little closer at Jane's forehead, but obvsly it's not there... Oh hey, there's one right at the base of her throat! At a glance, she'd thought it was a necklace or something.]

I was wondering what the deal with that was. Speaking of which, what is the deal with that?

Oh! Uh, yeah, here...[She pulls her shirt collar down a bit to reveal that the larimar there is, in fact, not a necklace.]

They're stuck to us now, and they kind of act as a replacement for our powers...but not completely, because they can give you all sorts of other weird powers too. You can also pull weapons out of them. They're...weird, and probably magic, and hard to explain, but that big Heart Gem brought us her through the holes and gave us these in order to protect the town outside the temple.

[Aradia frowns, unsatisfied. Like, first, what was wrong with their old powers? Second, how would you do any of that? And third...]

Just for a town? That's all? You're sure it's not... I don't know, slowly devouring our souls or something?

I haven't found anything indicating that it might be. If it were devouring our souls, there'd be some evidence pointing to that, wouldn't there? Like, we would've lost something of ourselves, or...something like that? I don't know, the fact that I've called all this malarky "magic" in the first place is kind of astonishing to me.

[Lost something of ourselves. That's just on the nose enough to strike and resonate with something inside her, long buried. And she begins to remember what it is that has her so concerned.]

... Loss ...

[For a second there's a faraway look on her face, but then she blinks and comes back into focus.]

That's it! The castle!

[It may have been on the nose, but it was completely coincidental, which has Jane looking lost herself.]

The...castle?

Yeah, um... [She snaps her fingers a few times, trying to dig up the information in her mind.] Cair Paradisa, that was it. That's where I met you! Or some iteration of you, anyway. Wow, that must have been sweeps ago, no wonder I forgot.

I can't...say I've even heard that name, but...you really met me? Or, well, another version of me?

[She's heard of other selves and of people going to these weirdo places but it's never involved her before...]

Yup! I seem to recall we hit it off pretty well, too.

[Of course, after a sweep and a half psychopomping her way around the Furthest Ring, she is well accustomed to meeting multiple versions of the same people with different sets of memories, and sometimes vastly different opinions of the same things and people. I'd say she doesn't want this Jane to feel pressured to be friends again, buuut lbr she doesn't exactly have that kind of tact, and she does want to be friends again, so...]

[The comment only serves to make Jane chuckle. "Other selves" is something that's still really, really weird to her, even though she's seen it happen to others. But on the flip side, if you can't trust the judgment of your own self, who can you trust?]

Well, then, I have always considered myself to have excellent taste in friends.

[Translation: Then let's see if we can hit it off here, I'm willing to take a shot!]

Fantastic! Let's see, then... Oh, right! Would you mind giving me the tour? I am curious to see what's so cool about this town that someone decided to conscript a bunch of interdimensional protectors.

Oh, sure! Not a problem. Anything in particular that a town's got that you'd like to see?

[Hmm... what has a town got, come to think of it?]

How about... a restaurant?

Alright, a restaurant. There aren't a lot, but we do have a couple here. Do you feel like trying a certain kind of food?

I don't know. What kinds do you have?

Well, there's a pizza place, a coffee place, a convenience store, a bakery, a burger place, an ice cream place, and a diner. Pretty basic, all things considered, but it's enough, I think.
