TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the Cosmographia Test Drive Meme!

This is a place for you to test out any characters you've been considering for the game or just to splash around in the waters and see what's right for you.

Give our infopages a glance over and use the prompts below as a jumping off point!

Threads from prompt A and B can be made canon for the game so long as both parties agree to it! Prompts C and D, unfortunately, cannot, as they take their cues from events and Excursions already run in Cosmographia.

In short - pick a character, write up a starter and have a blast!

PROMPT A - ARRIVAL
You don't remember getting in this hole but you definitely remember falling out of it.

You go tumbling out into the heart of a cavernous temple. Sparkling Gems suspended in bubbles float lazily about the ceiling, just a little out of reach. There's a greenish glow cast over the room by the huge crystal looming before you in the center. It's... curiously heart shaped, now you think to take a closer look at it.

If you're curious enough to touch it, you'll get some basic answers about your situation... but then again, there's no guarantee you're just going to walk up to a giant weird thing in the middle of a giant weird room and touch it, right? Why not take a look around and see for yourself what kind of place this is? Perhaps you'll run into someone in the same predicament as you, or perhaps you'll run into someone who can help explain why there's a weird rock now affixed to your body?
PROMPT B - THE FARMER'S MARKET
It's Thursday in Waverly Bay, and that can mean only one thing: the weekly Farmer's Market is here again!

The town plaza is all abuzz with activity today. Stalls not only from farmers on the outskirts of town but from crafty residents with interesting homemade items to sell, and businesses looking to attract the Market's crowd are all here! The weather's a little chilly but it's still an excellent place to spend the day, so long as you've got some money to spend. Are you shopping for a good deal on vegetables for dinner? Or perhaps you're getting a feel for the residents, having recently arrived? Or, perhaps, are you an industrious gem who's looking to set up shop? Either way, you're bound to run into somebody in this bustling, busy place.

PROMPT C - INVESTIGATION
Now that you're starting to get a hold of your powers, you've been sent through the warp pads on some kind of mission to the Gem Observatory. From the sounds of things, there's an ancient relic here somewhere that could serve useful for the Gems in the Temple and someone has to go out and find it.

... the only problem is that you're not exactly sure where you should start looking in this place. And on top of that, it's a complete mess. Junk and debris and books and papers everywhere with no clue where this relic could be. You're going to have to do some serious digging to find this thing.

And on top of that, you might find that when you try to go back the warp pad you took here has managed to stop working in between your arrival and now. Maybe something went wrong back in the control room? Or the pad itself needs fixing? You'll have to poke around in the guts of the machine to try and figure this one out.
PROMPT D - COMBAT
Uh-oh! Looks like you've run into a monster! These critters can pop up anywhere around Waverly Bay so it doesn't really matter where you were before or what you were up to. All you know now is that you need to buckle down and beat this thing!
Giant Mothwing - With broad wings that shed scales on the wind, this corrupted Gem bears a striking resemblance to a large moth or butterfly. The body between its wings is no beauty, though - it usually stays rolled into a wheel-like spiral to protect its flat, pinkish gem, but when it uncurls to attack it looks more like a worm with teeth. Yikes!

Loud noises make it lash out in agitation. Even when it's not attacking, it flies around restlessly, shedding sharp, glasslike scales that can leave nasty cuts as they whiz past. It'll be hard to get close to it unless it's lured down out of the sky.

Chameleoid - The shape of this monster's body is more like a tardigrade than a lizard, but its camouflage ability and long, sticky tongue are worth commemorating. The Chameleoid can flatten and expand its body, and change the color and texture of its outer hide to blend in seamlessly with its surroundings, and it uses this ability to duck in and out of battle. Keep an eye out for suspicious movement when it vanishes from view.

The Chameleoid shoots out its 20-foot-long tongue to disarm, trip up, and gross out Gems, but it's not averse to eating any small objects it might grab. The inside of its mouth looks softer than the rest of it, so maybe you can turn that to your advantage...?

Strawberry Spider - Though its long, spindly legs holding it off the ground make it look like a spider, this monster is actually mostly made up of plant material. Trees and strawberry plants are rooted in the corrupted Gem's featureless, geometric body, forming woody legs and blanketing the monster in foliage and strawberries.

Its aroma may be sweet, but the Strawberry Spider is ruthless and very, very perturbed. It stands 15 feet tall and 25 feet wide, and its skittering feet move fast to stomp on attacking Gems. Thinking of cutting off a leg? Try it, and hundreds of strawberry runners will immediately sprout from the stump to ensnare you. The strawberries are hungry, and they've got a "taste for blood"...

Damaging the plants living on it won't actually hurt the corrupted Gem, and they grow back fast. This will be a tough monster to defeat.

Wildcard Option - Make your own!
You know by now that you've got some special powers just from being a Gem. Apparently, from what little you've heard, you can shapeshift into things and pull a weapon from your gem, and you have some sort of unique special power. But maybe you don't know what it is yet, or you're still not used to using it? Guess you're going to have to learn on the job. Don't leave your fellow gems hanging if you see them fighting one of these little guys either! You're going to need each other to take 'em down!
PROMPT E - WILDCARD
Not into any of these prompts? Thought of something more fun? Go for it!

A

Mewtwo's attempted communion with the Heart is interrupted by the cracking and scratching of something falling out of a hole.

It hunches close to the giant stone, and keeps an intense stare trained on the source of the noise that only grows more intense when a large Pokemon falls out and onto the ground. Mewtwo fully expects a trainer to appear after it; its fur prickles in anticipation of a battle, even a short one.

But there's nothing. Immediately, at least. And the Pokemon didn't come out of that hole ready to attack; of course, since it's a new Gem, it must be as confused as Mewtwo itself was in the same situation; it's -

- wait what.

What did it just hear.

Mewtwo does nothing to attract the other Pokemon's attention, but...it'll look up at the Heart eventually, and see it sitting atop it, looking apprehensive and severe. This is a good position to have. If a battle is set off, Mewtwo can kick off from here to flee through the caves. If not...then that's fine too.]
juggernut: (Oh no...!)

[personal profile] juggernut 2016-08-23 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, steady now. Like we practiced. Shimmy down in the shell a bit, kick out the legs, add a little twist on the little spike-- thud. Flopping onto his side wasn't the most graceful way to get off of his back spikes, but at least it got the job done. Now he could try and focus on figuring out where he was, what that giant heart-shaped gem was for, and who that guy on top of it--

Oh nutshells. He knew exactly who that was; you couldn't make your way through Kalos' Pokemon Village without hearing him discussed in hushed whispers. And if what he heard was any indication, Chesnaught stood even less of a chance against him than he did against most other psychic types.

Okay. Deep breaths. There's no telling if Mewtwo is here to fight. "Did... you bring me here?"
psywaves: ([rgby] concern)

[personal profile] psywaves 2016-08-23 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That...is definitely...

...okay, wait, no, is it?? Mewtwo can't help but think that - this Pokemon sounds like it's speaking a human language, but at the same time, it also sounds like a regular Pokemon. That is very, very bizarre. It wonders, if Mewtwo could produce some proper vocalizations, if it might sound the same way...

Maybe not. It's not sure if it would know enough of anything resembling a Pokemon language to be coherent. Maybe it's a good thing that the other Pokemon sounds like a human right now. Confusing, but good.

Mewtwo shakes its head in reply, nose wrinkled a little in bewilderment over the whole...language issue, gaze still severe as ever. It points to the hole behind Chesnaught and makes a muffled, discontented cat-like noise that comes out as something like "I, too" with stilted pronunciation.
juggernut: (Aside)

[personal profile] juggernut 2016-08-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
...Huh. this was the fearsome and powerful Mewtwo? Maybe the other Pokemon were just exaggerating a little bit. Or maybe his being in the same position as himself had just left both of them a bit confused. Either way, it at least didn't seem like he'd have to take a Psychic to the face any time soon.

"Oh," Chesnaught spoke again, "So you're naught the one who--"

But he coughed and cleared his throat as the words again came out in a strangely humanlike tongue. Okay, so it wasn't just his imagination- but then why were his words coming out all... human?

Wait, maybe all these gem things had something to do with it. "Do you have a gem too? Like the one in my ches?"
psywaves: ([frlg] uncertain)

what the hell that verbal tic is so cute

[personal profile] psywaves 2016-08-24 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That is incredibly strange, yeah. Maybe it's...something about being a Gem? (It's really sinking in now. If Mewtwo isn't a Pokemon anymore, then...?)

Mewtwo touches its nose in thought while Chesnaught coughs.

When the question comes, it looks up again, and nods slowly, sitting up straighter so the kunzite embedded in its stomach is visible.
juggernut: (yeah well)

I can't NOT give it to him

[personal profile] juggernut 2016-08-25 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, and Mewtwo's was a cool purple color too! Though... Chesnaught's orange and stripey looked good on him, too, he guessed. Maybe it was because he was a fighting type.

Even so, it didn't look like a mega stone or any kind of... evolution-rock he'd ever seen. Chesnaught gave the one in his own chest another little tap and a tug, but it was stuck pretty good and hard on him.

"Well, if you don't know what's going on, I'm out of ideas. What about that heart you're sitting on? That's naught yours too, is it?"
psywaves: ([frlg] yell)

[personal profile] psywaves 2016-08-26 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Mewtwo shakes its head no. No, it's pretty damn lost too, but - oh. Speaking of.

Pat pat on the Heart, with a hand. It beckons to Chesnaught. Get over here and touch this. It's important. Do it.
juggernut: (Seriously...?)

[personal profile] juggernut 2016-08-27 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
It takes Chesnaught a second or two to get the meaning of Mewtwo's gesturing, but with a tenuous shrug he acquiesces to the request. The big thing DID look pretty--

...And one confusing bombardment of info into his cranium later, he pulled his hand away, looking even more confused than before

"...Well, I've got some new questions now. Especially if they can just bring in... someone like you."
psywaves: ([frlg] wince)

[personal profile] psywaves 2016-08-27 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That - yeah. Mewtwo feels that.

For a moment its whole expression just seizes up into frustration, aimed at a nondescript spot at the top of the room. Then it drops its nose and closes its eyes and splays both hands on the Heart again, tail swinging back and forth with the energy of its leftover agitation.

"Pokemon," it rasps, "not Gem. But feels like all should be well."

...that takes effort, yikes. It pats the Heart again to make its point - it's a Pokemon that's always run on instinct, and it's torn now between one pressing and present feeling and one lingering but powerful attachment. How are they supposed to react to this?
juggernut: (Thinkin')

[personal profile] juggernut 2016-08-30 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's just trading one master for another, right?"

At least, it was a sensible sort of answer for Chesnaught- then again, he was accustomed to working as a part of a team and under a trainer. And the more he thought about it, Mewtwo- from all he'd seen and heard so far- probably wasn't even used to talking to people.

But everyone started somewhere, right? "Maybe you can even make some friends!"
